"The Associated Press Guilt Pains"

The AP (Associated Press) made an announcement on Thursday offering discounts to newspapers and removal to retsrictions on articles they recieve.

According to the NYTimes the AP has made their decision based on frustrations of newspapers and news stating that some of them may leave the cooperative.

The company is convinced that the changes would raise the savings to newsrooms from $21 million a year to $30 million.

"We fully understand the pain and the challenges of our members, and we have worked to address these concerns," Tom Curly president and chief executive officer of the A.P said.

I think that the A.P is trying to be sincere to the fact that the newspapers are suffering. They are trying to gain there respect back, however I think that they still are and will always be selfish and inconsiderate when it come wages.

Wireless Celebrity Gossip

Celebrity gossip has been a profitable staple of print, radio, and television according to an article entitled All the Celebrities You Want, On Your Cellphone.

The article discusses how the cell phone has been the latest medium of celebrity gossip.

Beating People.com, the website of the pop culture magazine, TMZ.com began a mobile offering last April and sucessfully had 1.1. million visitors in July. People has in turn decided to create a specific application for the iphone dedicated to celebrities to gain back its credibility.

Because more mobile phones have location-tracking abilities, it is easier to spread the news of celebrity gossip, according to the article.

"We are all going to be walking television stations," said Jeff Selllinger, the general manager for CBS mobile.

I don't find it a suprise that alot of people are interested in celebrity gossip and tend to it everywhere they go including on their cell phones. This is a good benefit towards these active magazine corporations, however I feel a little sorry for the celebrities. Privacy definitely is not in their vocabulary.

Obama buys T.V Time

Barack Obama is the first presidential candidate in 16 years to buy a half-hour of time network television for a campaign infomercial according to a NYTimes article.

Several television networks said on Thursday that Obama completed deals to show a half-hour television broadcast about his candidacy on CBS and NBC Wednesday Oct. 29.

The program is scheduled to run at 8 p.m. in the time slots on CBS.

John F Kennedy, a former US president, also presented a half-hour commercial that featured parts of his speech in Houston about his religion.

"It feels very old-fashion, very 1960 or something,"said Jim Jordan, a Democratic strategist.

The NYTimes reports that Obama's campaign aides wouldn't discuss the cost of the television time.

I think that this is a very good idea on Obama's part. I'm sure he will get alot of viewers and his time will have a great impact on his infomercial delivery. The media is concerned with how much he paid but I don't think it should matter. They should watch the infomercial and report on if it is "time worthy" or not.

Game Show Hosts

Many people fail to realize the hard work that it takes to host a television show.

According to the New York Times Kevin Belinkoff, vice president for original programming at The Game Show Network, has been loaded with resumes from performers trying to earn their spot in hosting a game show.

Some interesting stars including Alfonso Ribeiro, Will Smith's cousin off of the show entitled The Fresh Prince, would like a chance to expand their career.

The NYTimes reports that game shows are inexpensive, to produce, can be sold in the same format around the world, and are appealing to the viewers.

"A bad host can ruin a good game," Belinkoff said, "but a great host can't rescue a game that's flawed."

I find it interesting that alot of actors and performers would like their chance to host a television broadcast. It would give them alot of publicity and the network may even gain an excess amount of credibility from a star that viewers already know of compared to that of a new face. Game shows are becoming very important in todays society.
